Negative feelings and emotions can flood your system feelings of dread, worry, anxiety, apprehension, and a variety of symptoms butterfly’s in your stomach, sleepless nights, irritability, feelings of being sick and nausea, and sometimes you do get ill, so “I cant take the exam now, can I”. Wonderful secondary gain.
No wonder you have had problems, in the past. I would be unable to get good results, if I were in that kind of state. I would have problems remembering the stuff. Even with the skills I have.
Things can be different.
First lets get some of the common sense things out of the way.
First off you have chosen to do this test, examination, martial arts grading or competition, if you are at school or university or doing a course to get grades, qualifications or a promotion, again you have chosen to do this. It is important for your future and the personal goals you have set.
You are always given enough time to do the study and learn whatever it is you need to know. So you have time, unless your are in certain situations, where they are testing how you respond under excessive stress and no win situations, however for most people this is not the case.
They have a vested interest in getting you through.
So your teachers, instructors or lectures are being paid, and have been trained to get you through this exam. Self esteem and ego are on the line. reputation and future promotion,
Things have been set up to allow you to succeed so all that is left is for you to do your part.
Assuming that this is not your first test you already have learnt how to pass tests easily and remember information and retrieve it when necessary, if not then you need to learn how to do this, you will study less, spend less time revising and be far less stressed and have more time to play and socialise.
These days we have some great ways, techniques to learn and remember faster and get improved results. You do have to learn them and practice. Hay, you want an easer life. You see, learning is about you changing and growing.
In life usually you have to put in the effort and do stuff, a few are naturals, but most of us do have to work to get an amazing result, we do now have technologies and techniques that do “make it faster” “learn quicker” I’ve done it my self with aviation law, in order to get my private pilots license and many other things.
Ok so what has been preventing you from making this process of learning fast, easy and enjoyable, and getting brilliant results?
You.
Simple, What I mean by that is, over the last forty odd years of training, taking gradings, both as a student and as an examiner and instructor, formal education and taking many exams and tests, physical and theoretical, and having to preform to the expectations of others and over twenty years of being a therapist and helping people to get the results they want.
I have learnt that most people sabotage themselves around exams and examinations of any kind. It does not matter if it is at work, in school, at university, at home or in our own personal relationships Usually not intentionally, well not at a conscious level of mind.
Most people never learn to control their thoughts, feelings and emotions.
Part of being an adult is learning to do this. Yet few do, We expect children to learn this, yet how many of us can?
The process of controlling our emotions and mental states is vital for success in life. If you are suffering from stress a common problem in todays society then all you have to do is learn how to control it.
Simple, just imagine how much more amazing you would be if stress was no longer a problem in your life. All those nasty feelings gone, all the mental anxiety vanished, all that worry removed.
Just imagine how good you will feel. It is not difficult.
You just need some understanding, the techniques and a little practice, and of course the desire to do it. One of the great things about stress is that we can not feel stress until we have internalised it and produce a “stress reaction” and we can decide what that reaction will be.
Yes, we decide what causes stress in our lives and choose how to respond to it. How often in the past have you allowed stress to immobilise you? Along with worry and anxiety. These are bed fellows and get very mixed up most of the time. Yet all of them we do to our selves and you can learn to change this situation.
